Epilogue

How little a life is valued! In paying back Gargamel, Papa Smurf had created a human woman in the same way Smurfette had been created. Smurfette, in Tailor's house with Vanity and Brainy as they tried to get her an outfit for the celebration, did not know enough of what was happening to protest.
The woman was large and rather lumpy. Her hair was made of sparse flax fibers, and Nifty Smurf sewed a dress from patched sackcloth.
Smiley Smurf offered up a large diamond for the heart. The stone was nearly as tall as he was, and no one knew where he had gotten it, but it was used anyways. (It was the biggest rock in his cousin's collection that he could carry, so he'd stolen it. Clumsy would be upset about the loss of this rock for a while.)
When the woman was brought to life, Papa Smurf had given her the directions to Gargamel's house.
"Go there," he told her, "and the man living in that house will take care of you."
And that was the last any of the Smurfs expected to see of her ever again.
